Walter Hayes Trophy 2025

A few photos from Sunday raceday at Silverstone for the 25th running of the brilliant Walter Hayes Trophy. This event is always one of my absolute favourite race weekends…

I was at the circuit bright and early for the progression race and the finale of the Ginetta Junior Winter Series.

The weather was unusually warm with crisp blue skies… it was bloomin’ cold though!

Best view in the house…

The BRDC grandstand was off limits due to building works… will be interested to see what improvements are in the offing.

BRDC Grandstand closed for repairs

Time for the final race…

Jason Smyth proved himself to be a brilliant Formula Fordster following on from his win at the Formula Ford Festival at Brands last week, by taking the Walter Hayes Trophy in fine style.

The podium celebrations (in near darkness, for the sun had set by this time) were rounded off with an emotional farewell to doyen of the comms box, Ian Titchmarsh. He has been commentating for as long as I can remember (and I only remember as far back as the mid-80s). His commentary (informative and at the same time oft infuriating) will be missed so very much! Thank you, Ian, for your company on the spectator banks!
